What are good books for learning about architectural drawing?

Posted by admin on April 16th, 2010 and filed under architectural | 2 Comments »

I am really interested in drawing houses and I would like to learn more about the various techniques used in drawing architectural renderings with ink, markers, colored pencils etc. I’d also like to learn some basic information about architecture and different types of buildings and houses. What books would be helpful?

I have a great book called "The Architectural Drawing Course" by Mo Zell

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Architectural-Drawing-Course-Understand-Principles/dp/0500287287/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1270911234&sr=8-1

It has everything and it’s really simple and straightforward.

I’ve done some research but I got a little confused with all the different certifications, and degrees there are for interior design or home staging careers. I don’t know wich will be best to go for. Can anybody tell me what will be the best thing to do to start a career in any of these two fields and be able to get great oportunities once done with education?

I guess you should start doing make over services to get experience and after that, it is a time to applying on some company that hiring interior design jobs and get big salary.

What is the traditional interior design for a home built 1920?

Posted by admin on April 12th, 2010 and filed under interior design | 1 Comment »

I’d like to know what was typical in interior design for a home in this period. I’m buying a cottage style home built in 1920, and I’d love to integrate some of the traditional style with my contemporary taste. What was popular in color, line, etc? Any suggestions for websites that I can check out would be so appreciated =) Thanks!

Here are a few links to give you visuals.

Design would be significant to the area and local resources. …For instance if there was a rock quarry nearby you would see stone walks. 1920 was the onset of the "Honeymoon Cottage" in the beach communities. You will find heavily influenced "Edwardian Period" and the beginnings of "Art Deco". Egyptian and oriental influences were common. Black and reds were used in coloring and Bright green, jade, turquoise, eau-de-nil, mint or peacock blue or deep blue, are all really gorgeous colors of the time, and contrast nicely with a pale grey. The Arts and Crafts era post WW1 was in swing. Or you can replicate the highly sought after Gustav Stickley homes. The rich had Greene and Greene, Frank Lloyd Wright and others as their Arts & Crafts-style architects. The poorer folk built Sears and Aladdin "kit" homes.

WHAT IS WATTS PER SQ FEET IN DESIGN OF POWER REQUIREMENT IN RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL PREMISES?

Posted by admin on April 8th, 2010 and filed under residential design | 2 Comments »

It is a system used to make an educated guess at the maximum demand on the electrical supply to various types of buildings. A house built in a area that is never hot or cold and uses a wood burning stove, might be rated at "x" Watts per square foot. If the house has a floor area of 1,000 sq ft, the maximum demand would be x,000 Watts. These ratings are available from various building organisations and are based on surveys. They vary a lot of place to place because they take account of the climate, the thermal characteristics of the building materials and the gross size of the building. Calculating the maximum demand by this method is often done for the purpose of estimating the size of the street transformer that will be needed in a new estate in the early stages of planning but more accurate calculations are still needed to determine the final figures.

How to get architectural ideas for exterior design?

Posted by admin on April 8th, 2010 and filed under architectural | 2 Comments »

How to get architectural ideas for exterior design?? I’m a 3D artist but right now I’m completely out of the ideas. And I can’t find any idea in my head.

call the Yale School of Architecture and ask for Eucaleh Terrapin or Nathan Coppedge’s Eridianisme; I gave them free materials in packets some weeks ago, tell them to call (203) 285-4102 if they have questions or need references,

my websites are nathancoppedge.com (non-pseudonymous), and impossiblemachine.com; I have blogs at motism.blogspot.com, and 360.yahoo.com/drypress

otherwise e-mail me at terrapin@impossiblemachine.com and I’ll e-mail you a jpg with some very interesting characteristics (its what you would get from them approximately if they preserved the materials)

its based on feng shui, hyperdimensions, and philosophy, rather astounding,

I’d like to discuss ideas too if you want a temporary e-mail contact for consulting,

there may be a website up in a few years called "jengaarchitecture.com", assuming I have a little free cash to fund it, only requires 30 or 60 dollars a month, mostly constant regardless of commercial income

How were the styles and important works produced by major players of architectural photography?

Posted by admin on April 6th, 2010 and filed under architectural photography | 1 Comment »

When shooting for an architect, the emphasis is not the style of the photographer, but that of the architect.

For that reason, it is important that the photographer is able to capture all the subtleties of the interior and exterior of the structure including the features that make it uniquely that of the individual architect.

Years ago, I was an assistant for a photographer who did work for local architects and I will tell you that other than lighting a motion picture set, setting up for shooting a building for the architectural firm was some hard work. There is probably one other job that matches that and that would be the work that the "roadies" do when preparing a "Worldwide Concert" venue.

The pre-work necessary to achieve what the architect has in mind when he designed the building and being able to approximate it visually with camera and film some times took weeks of preplanning and a lot of work setting up the lights or "gelling" windows to balance not only the colour (mixed daylight and incandescent) but applying ND gels on critical windows in order to match the quantity of light entering them to match the ambient lighting inside.

Most of the time the shoot was done using 4×5 transparency film and some exotic wide angle lenses.

Many of the major players work can be found in the pages of the "Architectural Digest", but that only scratches the surface. There are many more excellent architectural photographers than there are page in the Architectural Digest.

AIA is an excellent resource

Here is a link to an architecture photographers association.

If you use Yahoo Search, you will find any examples of what architectural photographers are doing now.

In every case, it is all about lighting.

Am I wasting my time in college for Architectural Drafting?

Posted by admin on March 29th, 2010 and filed under architectural drafting | 2 Comments »

I’m in my first year of my architectural drafting class, but I have been looking at job sites and not seeing too many in this field. Is it because of the bad job market or because drafters and CAD designers are not needed?

The program is for a 2 year associates
And it is at a community college so it is a non-profit school

Architecture was hit pretty hard by the recession, because when money starts to dry up developers have to cancel their projects and they can’t afford to start new ones. No projects = no architects.

You can expect the number of available jobs to increase in the coming years as land development picks back up.

You should really consider upgrading your education to a Bachelors in Architecture at some point in the future.
