Can a business be run from a residential rented unit in Brisbane?
why engineers consider static equilibrium important in building design and construction.?
i need some examples please.
You have to understand static equilibrium and balancing forces because you don’t want any part of a sturdy building to accelerate with respect to the building foundation!
How can I design a heated house for my outdoor cat?
I would like to design a small house with a light bulb or other heating device that is powered off solar energy and has thermostat controlled. Any idea on the type of thermostat to use? Any help finding a resource for such a design?
Of course I’d like to bring the cat in, but she is a ferrel cat and is FIV+. I already have two indoor cats, so infecting them is not an option. Also, she is wild (ferrel) and won’t adapt well to the indoors.
It sounds like a unique and novel idea…but may I ask if it would not just be more simple to make the outdoor cat into an indoor cat and keep him safe and warm in your home?
Did you know that, in addition to the cold, your outdoor cat faces many hazards? It can get hit by a car, attacked by other cats, dogs or wild animals, be poisoned, fall victim to cruel humans who torture helpless animals, get lost, contract diseases (that it brings home to you), become infested with parasites (which it can also bring home to you), it can caught in traps set for other animals and may become injured or suffer before being released, and – if not spayed or neutered – can contribute to the overpopulation of feral/homeless cats.
Please read "The Great Outdoors is No Place for Cats" and make the decision to give your kitty a safe, warm, loving indoor life: http://www.abcbirds.org/abcprograms/policy/cats/materials/hazards.pdf
Can sculpture be considered architecture?
I’m doing some architectural photography and I was wondering, can sculpture photography be considered as architectural photography?
in a way yes
What was the name of the home design show with the mystery box?
What was the name of the home design show that had the designer create a designe for the home, purchase materials and pack it all in a crate with only a hint at what the disigne was? I keep on thinking mystery box but can’t find it.
It is not design on a dime, the show I was talking about was canceld and the home owners only get to work with a carpenter, They don not get to meet the designer until the end of the show,
I think it is design on a dime
free 2D architectural drafting programs?
i’ve already downloaded google Sketch-Up (a free 3D drafting program), but i’m finding that it’s tricky to use and more complicated than i need.
are there any good freeware programs for 2-dimensional drafting that work on a mac? i’m looking to draw house floor-plans, but just as a hobby, so i want something that is intuitive and easy to learn.
I’m a Professional Draftsman/Designer aka CAD Monkey
Fact is sometimes I don’t use AutoCAD I may resort to using photoshop or paint. It all depends on what I’m doing. So the suggestion to use paint is not out of the question. It all depends on on why you need it, form fits function.
If you REALLY need a free CAD program. The only GOOD free one I know if is QCAD but that’s only for Linux and that’s a different barrel of apples. You’d want to use Ubuntu not Windows.
Architectural Engineering?
Can architectural engineers do everything civil engineers and architects can do? If not, what can’t they do?
I am an architectural engineering graduate.
Let me tell you a fact, architectural engineers can NOT do everything civil, mechanical, electrical engineers and architects do.
Civil engineers can work on roads and highways projects, or water and environment. Mechanical engineers can work with compustion engines or industrial piping. Electrical engineers can do telecommunications work, or they can deal with transformers.
Architectural engineering takes what is related to the building industry from others, and it leaves out anything irrelevant to buildings. From civil eng, we studied structures, concrete, geotechnics, and surveying. From mechanical eng, we studied air conditioning, plumbing, fire fighting, acoustics, and energy. From electrical eng, we covered lighting and electrical loading and wiring. Finally, from architecture, working drawings, history, and basic design concepts we covered to facilitate the integration of other systems.
I can simply say that architectural engineers design better structures, lighting, HVAC, or any other systems than any other engineer can do. This due to their knowledge in buildings and their components, so integration and workability meets standards all the time.
Architectural engineers know everything about buildings.
What qualities do you need to pursue a field in interior design?
i know you need creativity and a sense of style but do you need art?
and what is the difference between interior design and interior decorating?
one more question would an online interior course be good or is it better to go to an art school?
thanks so much, and i appreciate you taking your time to read this
i will def. pick a best answer!
Ok..i will anser this first.
the difference between an interior designer and and interior decorator….. A designer has gone to college for ID and has passed the NCIDQ exam. both of those qullifications must be met in order to legally call yourself an interior designer (in most states) A decorator is some who well decorates, normally no formal education in the interior design field, but talented none the less. Lol..really this is like a HUGE debate right now in the design industry and there is actually tons of legislation going on abouot it.
OK art. While not all designers are great artists, it does help. Being able to create sketches of a room or plan or idea and convey it to someone else is an important facet of the job. Weather is a loose sketch on a napkin or a fully rendered scale drawing of a HUGE hotel lobby that you are picthing to a major client. Any design program is going to require art…but have no fear, you will also learn the latest and greatest computer programs for things like that as well.
If you are wanting to do interior design, for sure go to a design school! You will take some fine art classes, and some more spacific art classes related to ID, like perspective drawing. One thing is for sure, If you go to a good design school it is not a walk in the park, its a TON of work…but it is sooo much fun.
If you have any more questions i will be happy to help you out…this stuff is my life and my passion!!
I have a small architectural firm, and am trying to market. What are the most effective methods?
Hi Thomas,
Without a doubt the best way is to Network, Network and Network some more. In your area there is nothing like face to face meetings with people to generate business. So join your local business groups. Have business cards you give to everyone. When talking to people, mention you business, then ask them if they know of anyone else who would be interested in your architectural services.
Now since you’ve posted this in the SEO section I’m assuming you’re looking to generate some business from the internet. This is definitely a good idea but only if you do it properly.
Do not under any circumstances get a Flash website unless you don’t want to get any traffic from the Search Engines. Go instead for a clean simple look, and concentrate on the content you write. Make sure your passion for Architecture comes across rather than just being a sales pitch for your company services.
Think what people are going to be wanting in your area. Do they want an extension because they need more space? Do they want to sell their home but can’t and do you have a solution?
Remember people coming to your site are coming there because they have a problem. You need to think what that is and address it.
As for getting the traffic to the site, publicise it everywhere. Get your local paper to do a feature on it. And make sure you’ve written content based around keyword phrases. You need to have a list generated but at a guess I’d imagine one phrase would be "architect in (your area).
The key thing, if you’re not willing to write good passionate content for your site, and keep adding to it don’t bother because the money will be better spend on local advertising.
However if you are serious in doing the website properly you could quickly become the local expert in anything to do with Architecture. Then the business will come flooding in through WOM.
All the best, and if you need any further advice please contact me through my website below.
Regards
Susan
Where is the best place to get a graduate degree in architectural history in the DC area?
I want to get my Masters in Architectural History while working a day job, so I have to stay in the DC area. Any suggestions as to what schools have the best programs?
Not really in the DC area, but the University of Virginia has a great program in that small field of study. You may want to see if American University has something similar.
