is there a free cad programme i can download for architectural and engineering purposes?
something with an autocad interface. i tried zwcad, but can only find a demo version without all the features. what site can i find such software?
If you are a professional you will need to have the full version in order to get much work done…a lot of file sharing goes on and the ‘home’ versions won’t be able to open cad files (and if they can then you won’t be able to send them to anyone).
if you are in school…ask your classmates and one of them might hook you up with some helpful software.

Marketing my interior design business to Contractors?
I am an Interior Designer who would like to specialize in helping contractors design new homes (presold or spec). I currently work for a design center that offers cabinets, carpet, tile, hardood & slab countertops. I feel that I could be a single source for a contractor to go to for design help (since a lot of them don’t want to deal with this end of it). I could also select paint colors, appliances, lighting & plumbing fixtures.
I would love any ideas on how to market contractors!
Good Idea, Erika!
My late mother really broke into that market when she did a "Street of Dreams" home. This is where high end contractors build a number of spec homes and dress them to the hilt. They get more "lookers" and therefore, future contracts. Mom got a great deal of exposure, too and formed a relationship with that builder that lasted a lifetime.
Check with any/all building contractor organizations in the area, or large Realtors or perhaps even Building Supply centers. I believe the one she was involved with, was arranged through a large Realtor, who owned a large plot they were subdividing… The Street of Dreams was at the front and the rest of the lots were "for sale".

is there anybody here who works at Palafox associates (architectural firm)?
dave i am, you supposed to answer my questions
I know someone who used to work there. Last I heard, the company witheld the former staffs last salary. Also they are known to dive too low with their fees and price themselves way too low in the market.
Is 28 too old to go for an engineering or architectural degree and be in demand with major firms?
I am 28 years old and just found out what I really want to do with my life after tring to decide for years. I am married and have a beautiful little girl. I would like to go into engineering or architecture because I know they are something I would love to do. My only concern is that by the time I would graduate at 32-33, would I have a good chance at getting in at a good firm? I dont know if most firms prefer hiring younger graduates or if someone at that age would have just as good of a chance as someone graduating at 22. Again I want to go to school for either one of these but dont want to graduate and have a hard time finding a firm or job because of the inexperience at my age. I am willing to work hard to come out on top. Any engineers or architects with advice would be great! Or anyone with insight on the subject would be a great help! Thanks
You’re never too old to give it a shot. However, with a family in tow, it may be difficult for you to pursue architecture. You’ll be competing against much younger staff who are hungry and willing to work the over time expected in the profession. It’s the sad truth of the profession, but this OT work is when we offset the hours needed to learn the software and assemblies placed against our billable hours. It is not uncommon for the junior staff to work 60-70 hours/week. Architectural school is no different. Studio professors expect you to be in studio for the entire night. If you choose to follow architecture, you may not have much time left for family.
