show how the new technology changed architectural design in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, focusing on Garnier, Sullivan and Wright. How does form follow function? Why is the Paris Opera a triumph of historicism, and how do Sullivan and Wright treat the organic and inorganic?
One of the single most important "new technologies" was the development of the elevator safety brake by Otis in 1852. It made tall buildings possible.

for candid st photography architectural photography as well as general photography would a 18-105 be adequate?
or would i be better with the nikon 18-200
whilst it is more expensive i would like it as it has a wider range
That’s right, use a really big zoom for candid street photography. That’s the way to fade into the background unnoticed.
I want to design a professional logo for my business. What software do you recommend in the $100-$500 range?
It’s a residential design/build business. I have a strong CAD background, so I should be able to catch on to the concepts quickly. The program should allow for importing and manipulation of different fonts, images, graphic drawings, etc. I’d like to be able to develop something for business cards, signs in front of homes, billboards, ads for magazines, merchandise, stationary, etc. So, ideally, the program should be able to lay out and export the design most commonly required for these things. In the future, I’d like to use the designs for a website. Thanks in advance for your help!
Gimp isn’t a vector based graphics program, it’s basically like Photoshop. What you want is Illustrator, or some other vector graphics program, since you obviously want scalability. You can get the fully functional free trial from the Adobe website, if you anticipate your needs to fit within the 30 day limit.
Another option is to try a freeware program like Inkscape:

Personally, I’d just draw it in AutoCAD, then export as an EPS and then color and add effects in Illustrator. Well, depending on what you had in mind.
Selling Photos?
I am trying to start a photography business specifically on outdoor, nature, architectural and abstract photos and any other kind that allows me to travel. And occassionally taking portraits a couple times of year if needed. If anyone could help me, how and where would I sell these kind of photos to get a continous flow of money and customers. Please give details. I want to sell online, around town (postcards, notecards, ect.), and in any other form that you can tell me.
I am not interested in stock websites.
If this helps: I don’t have much money (between $100-$200) and I am at the very beginning.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you
i would sell your photos and portraits in a city centre hold a pich and show what you can do. i live in plymouth and there are loads of people doing it and its legal
Looking for the names of high-end residential lighting manufacturers?
I am in a lighting course, and the teacher hasn’t done a very good job of providing us with names of high end lighting manufacturers for the interior design industry. Does anyone have any suggestions for quality light fixtures? (We’re talking better than the Home Depot or any of those regular retailers) This has to be stuff that is internet accessible, because it’s for a project that I’m having to do from home. Thanks.
Waterford makes beautiful light fixtures, lamps, ceiling lights, and Chandeliers. Theey are beautiful especially with a dimmer switch
Traditional Photo Project?
Im in traditional photography and I need help on some thing I take pictures of. Ex: Social Commentary, injustice, architectural, nature, technology, action/motion?
I dont know what to take pictures of in those subjects.
Okay, well, social commentary are basically photos that say something about society. This could include photos that are used to speak out against war or racial inequality.
Inequality based on any type os discrimination would fall under the category of injustice.
Architectural is pretty self-explanatory. You would photographer architectural elements on buildings and other structures. Staircases are a popular subject for architectural photography.
Nature includes pretty much anything natural, as in not man-made. Animals, mountains, forestry, plants.
Technology I think is open to interpretation. For instance it would be a great juxtaposition to show in one image a high tech new car next to an old antique car.
You can freeze motion using a fast shutter speed. A good subject might be sports or kids playing. You can blur motion by using a slow shutter speed. a good subject is flowing water which will look smooth and creamy in the final image. You can also use panning which keeps the subject relatively sharp as you follow it with the camera but the background blurs so much it may be unrecognizable. A good subject would be a person on a bike.
Hope this helped. If you need more info or help setting up to shoot feel free to send me a message.
What is the best low cost 3d home design software?
I want realistic looking kitchens and baths. I’d like to be able to show skylights and lighting.
Also, it has to be low cost. I mean, I don’t want to spend thousands of dollars. It should be under $100 ideally.
SketchUp made by Google is pretty useful , you should really give it a try it has a free version,
in the free version there are
-predesigned items (cabinets, cars etc) and also an online warehouse where you can download models made by others and add them to your models
-it has lighting, for different times of the day and year based on location
-online videos made by Google which are very intuitive and good quality to get you modeling fast.
-some limited animation features if I remember right for, shooting scenes
-creating 3D models from 2D snapshots of objects
-and many more features
seriously you should really give it a try, at least watch the video tutorials to see what it can do, and if it is good enough for you
the Pro version was 600$ the last time I checked it has more features than the Free version
