What are the things necessary for a Handicapped friendly home?
Want Websites referrals and list of things on home designs.
Please be as complete as you can, I need these resources ASAP. THANKS!!
Wide enough for wheellchair, no sharp edges, chairs/couches high as an ADA approved toilet, nothing hard, no stone, concrete in case of falls, no slippery/waxed floors. Carpet would be great, also springy straw rugs like sisal.
I’m looking for something to design houses that includes interior work like wall color and flooring, as well as exterior design, but will be easy to use. Something that has doesn’t have bad graphics but won’t freeze my computer. I’d also like to stick to a fairly good price, preferably under $100.
home designer deluxe 7.0
allows you to do virtually any thing including grades, home design, decks, yard design, flooring, paint, kitchens, ect.
this program is fairly easy to use yet has many display options from low to high resolution.

Not sure how to set up a bigger playroom….. I work from home, so need the office set-up to be convenient and we rarely have guests, but I think I should keep the queen bed.
The baby’s room is very small (10×10) and other room twice as large (10×20)… should I squeeze the bed / desk into the small room and leave the large room for baby / play area as my main goal is to have a large space where the baby can spread out his toys now that he is growing (he is 1 now)
Or do I keep the office on part of the large room and somehow divide the rest for baby (convenient b/c I can work while he plays — but who wants computer equipment in the baby’s room??!!)
We are also planning to have anther baby sometime soon, so I giess if I make the large room just for baby, he will later share with the newborn — is this a good idea???
This can’t be so difficult, but I am having quite a time fitting the many needs (baby playroom, office, guestroom, new baby crib area in future) into two spaces
It only makes sense to keep baby room as play room. Since you are planning a new addition to the family this should be the bigger room. As to a guest room and office, you can use smaller room for this, but I think I would section off part of bigger room for an office too. As you said you can be with the kids while you work this way. Babies and young children don’t really need closet space so I would remodel the closet as the office. You can add shelves for storage and a desk can be built to your needs, then when you aren’t using it you close the doors and it is out of site. That leaves the smaller room for guests to have a bit of privacy.

I’ve decided I want to design my dream house. I think the only way I can do it is to actually draw everything out (blueprints, exteriors, etc.). I have photoshop. Any good tips for completely designing a house from the ground up? Or do I just open up a large drawing surface and draw it all room by room? Thanks.
Unless you have Photoshop Extended, you probably won’t have access to any of the 3D functionality. If you’re looking to just draw it out like a blueprint, Photoshop would work fine but it’s very much overkill.
You can find a lot of applications written specifically for this task at your local Staples or Office Max, etc., for like $30 or so. They even have pre-made objects like windows and doors. Some even have textures and furniture to help you visualize the house better – or even come with a landscape planning tool.
I have always dreamed of a spanish style home with private courtyards, etc.
I have looked uncuccessfully on the internet. Does anyone know of a good source?
Thanks in adcance!!

http://www.thehousedesigners.com/
both have detailed searches. Spanish style is rather common (especially here in the south), so you should have no problem.
the BEST bet is to contact your local custom builder that will know the local laws and code so you don’t fall in love with something online that isn’t possible for your area.

Anybody out there know of any websites that have free home design programs that you don’t have to download? Any answers would be appreciated. Also post your links to fav home designs here for your 2 points.
Go to HGTV.com and search for home design plans. They have some very creative ideas online.
