Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Architectural Engineering (ARCE) Senior Project with Trey Sheehe, Stig Widell, Gerald Hunt, and Justin Tuyay (2008)
An investigation of the seismic performance of timber shear walls utilizing fiber reinforced polymers.
The purpose of this experiment is to compare the performance of standard single and double sheathed plywood shear walls to a single sheath fiberglass reinforced plywood shear wall. The reinforcing will be installed in layers made up of six inch wide strips around the edge and across the diagonals of a sheet of ½ inch OSB. This modified panel will then be installed similarly and with the same nailing pattern as both the single and double sheathed normal shear walls. The hope is to show that the FRP shear wall can outperform its standard counterpart, thus allowing for single sheathing to be used where double sheathing would otherwise be required.
